The MN Chapter ASM provides scholarships annually to selected college students.
General Information:
- Scholarships will be awarded at the Chapters Technical meeting in April in amounts between $500 and $1000.
- Completed scholarship application forms must be post marked by March 1st and sent to Minnesota Chapter ASM office (see address below).
- Scholarships candidates meet one of the following requirements:
- Minnesota resident
- ASM member
- Child of Minnesota Chapter members
- Scholarship eligibility is limited to two years per individual.
- Students must have an intended or declared major in metallurgy or material science and engineering. Applicants majoring in a related science or engineering discipline will be considered if they demonstrate a strong academic emphasis and interest in materials science and engineering. In addition, students must have completed at least the first two years of a BS degree or the first year of a 2-year degree/diploma.
- Awards will be based on academic achievement, submitted essay, work experience or extra curricular activities, and recommendations.
Application Procedure:
In order to be considered, the application must include:
- An official form completed and signed by the applicant.
- A 500-1000 word essay/paper on one of the following topics:
- My vision of metallurgy/materials science in the future
- My career goals in metallurgy/materials science
- A technical paper or report on metallurgy/materials science
- A current (up-to-date) transcript of college or technical school record
- A resume that includes work experience and extra-curricular activities
- At least two letters of recommendations with no more than one from an instructor. The other one can be from an employer or someone who would most understand your scholarship needs.
- Optional: A copy of your college report of financial aid and unmet need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
